I believe Tums is available over here and those are ok.  I took a lot of those when I was pregnant with my youngest!

Gaviscon- you can get it at any pharmacy or you can ask your GP for a perscription for it.   :)

Also, make sure you're propping yourself up at night-use lots of pillows so you're not lying flat, and sleep on your left side-less pressure on the liver/gall bladder area.  Hope that helps.

I used Rennie tablets.  You can get them in packs of 96 or bigger (I think).

I used Rennie tablets here as well. I don't know if Tums is differently formulated in the UK or not, but they didn't work for me, I had to use Rennie. I had *outrageous* heartburn my entire third trimester, and they really helped when absolutely nothing else did!
I'm done moving. Unrepatriated back to the UK, here for good!

How much protein are you eating at meals?  I found with dd when I had awful, awful heartburn that eating small amounts of protein throughout the day helped settle it (like a hard-boiled egg, a small bunless hamburger, some cheese, etc.)

Doesn't work for everyne, but it helped me, and gave me a bit more time between antacid doses.

I am right there with you!!!  36 weeks!

I lived off Tums with my other 2 pregnancies; but it just doesn't agree with my system anymore.  I have been taking papaya tablets this pregnancy.  Its seems to work fairly good.

My OB (I am still in the US) said I could take about any OTC heartburn medicine.

Amazingly the heartburn will be gone as soon as you deliver!  I remember taking Tums to the hospital with #1; but didn't need them anymore.

Good Luck!

i'm finding eating smaller meals helps and if that doesn't work then a polo mint usually does the trick. i suppose actual fresh mint would be even better but hey, a polo's close isn't it?

Hello,

I suffered from heartburn terribly when I was pregnant; it was ruining my life!

I don't remember what it was called, but my GP gave me some stuff for it, which worked brilliantly.  It stopped the heartburn almost instantly after taking it.  Even better, because the GP dispensed it, it was free.

The one thing about it, though, was that it made me constipated.  Heartburn or constipation.  You choose!

Good luck.
