Emotions Like A Pregnant Lady
« on: August 12, 2009, 03:36:31 AM »
Well I think just about everyone here has probably had an "enduring the distance rant" - so I thought I'd get mine out and see if this works.  I am just a big ball of emotions right now - pretty much every emotion a person could possibly have running through me all at once - I think this is worse than when I was pregnant.  I'm happy that my family is finally coming around to the fact that I'm leaving the US (although they aren't happy about it, they will at least talk about it now) - I'm sleepy because I have been up a lot worrying about everything that has to be done - pissed off that I haven't been able to sell my car yet (that's kinda the first "last" step in getting the visas finished) - nervous because I start my new temporary job tomorrow (something to hold me over until the move) - excited about moving and trying to start getting pregnant when I get there (I don't mean that in a perverted way) - lonely because I miss my hubby more than I ever though possible - frustrated because I have asked my hubby for the paperwork I need and I don't seem to be getting anywhere with some of it - anxious because my daughter's father is supposed to be signing the parental permission letter but I haven't gotten it back from him yet - wondering what the hell happened to my daughters expedited passport application that was sent 4 business days ago and hasn't been updated on the website yet - tired of arguing with my husband about everything because we are both stressed and worried and grating on each other's nerves like never before - proud that my little girl is starting kindergarten in less than 2 weeks - stressed because I have a lot of stuff to get my daughter before she starts school - aggravated with all the "junk" lying around the house that I'm trying to get organized for a huge yardsale...

I could go on forever but I think you all get the point (and have probably been here before yourselves - or you will be at some point).

iIt's definitely a difficult time full of emotions - I was super stressed in finishing my graduate coursework and writing my thesis, plus planning a wedding and getting rid of all my stuff, visa stuff, etc., plus excited and nervous anout the move, plus sad to see my family and friends upset, and everything else!!!! But, just keep going to your happy place, here, on the other side of all of that, and you will make it through!  ;D

Ugh. Making the actual transition is HORRIBLE. Selling things, buying things, throwing things out, packing things, doing the paperwork, trying not to get too goopy about the things left behind. That was one of the worst years of my life, that last year. Horrible. Horrible, horrible.

It's eight months later now and totally worth whatever it took. Eyes on the prize, dearie.

It definitely made me grumpy.  Well, helped.  The fact I couldn't sleep for the last six months I was in the States didn't help.

We stopped in New York a few days before we set off.  I don't think the stress left me until my very last day in the States.  I even woke in our hotel and the first thought was always, "What do I have to get done today?"

It's awful. I was afraid that I'd become addicted to the stress and not know how to relax anymore by the time I finally moved. But that isn't what happened at all - it was wonderful to de-stress once we finally got over here. Just keep going! It'll all be worth it in the end.

It was the same for me too. Weeks leading up to the application I couldn't sleep for more than a few hours cause I kept having nightmares about forgetting to do something.

This repeated every time new visa milestone I hit in the UK too: my ILR application, my citizenship application and even when I applied for my passport. It did pass though. Every time I got my visa (or whatever) back in my hands the feeling of relief was soooo intense!
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

It is amazing how many conflicting emotions you can have at once, isn't it? The stress of moving countries is just so high. You have this long list of practical things to accomplish and all the emotions just make it even more overwhelming.

But as the others keep saying- it does get done. And it is totally worth it! Keep pushing on! You'll get there.

My main concern right now is hmmmm how do I conceal the neurotic nervous wreck with insomnia who has taken over my previously stable and easygoing body from my wonderful husband-to-be so he doesn't run for the hills before I move to the US?  ;D

Oh well on the plus side, NOT LONG TO GO!!! *grins*

PS I think he has a pretty good idea really...though he pretends it's no big deal when I'm freaking out over the latest worry and just dedicates himself to making me laugh so I RELAX. Teamwork at it's best  ;)
