Dr. Weil
« on: August 25, 2004, 10:53:06 PM »
Just wondering if any one is familiar with Dr. Weil and his studies/website/books etc.

Saw him on Larry King a few years ago, really liked what he had to say and followed the suggestions on his website, and lost 14 lbs. in about 6 weeks I think... 'course I did fall off the wagon, but... what I liked about him was that he is very matter-of-fact, common sense, what works is what works for you and your body, no one 'diet' should be pushed; eat salmon and broccoli.  He said the big secret to weight loss was 'eat less, eat better, and exercise.'  Of course he does go into further detail on his site, but it made sense to me for the first time (why some sugars are good, some fats are good, etc.)

Thoughts?  Comments?

I have never heard of him ...  could you possibly put a link on here for us so that some may view his site...

I like what you state about his thoughts on diet...  I have lost lots of weight by doing just that...  but by my own methods and not reading up on it much...would be curious for me to check him out.

He does very compelling shows on PBS during their asking-for-money periods.  From what I recall he mainly talks about eating more naturally and trying to avoid a lot of food additives that can be so harmful to our bodies.  He also goes into how daily stresses can make it harder for your body to be healthy. Interesting fellow.

I think he looks like Santa.......

LOL... that's the first thing that kept me tuned!  I thought 'who's this health guy who looks like Santa?!? And what's he trying to sell?!?!'

And then I realised, like Santa, he's not trying to sell anything... he's trying to spread the word of good health!

I really like him a lot and think he gives really sound advice. He's got some "10 step" guide or something like that where he recommends that you add one thing everyday to get to optimum health and all of the items on the list were very do-able and made a lot of sense. I'm sure I've still got that somewhere, but my hunch is that it's in California, which sucks 'cause I'd forgotten all about it and now I'd like to re-read it!  >:(

check out the site!  There's loads on there to guide you... including the option to sign up for the health plan, which is about $6 per month or something like that.  And again, it gives suggestions, no must do's or don'ts...
