L.A. Consulate backup?
« on: July 26, 2009, 05:38:40 PM »
Does anyone know if the L.A. consulate is backed up currently?

I was going to use a courier but I'm really not sure how to choose one and was thinking maybe just sending it UPS or FEDEX myself. On the other hand, I really don't want to have to wait two months to get a decision back.

Any recent experiences with the LA Consulate?

Currently, I would expect to wait 40-60 days for your approval if you send it on your own.  The LA consulate is generally slower than the others, backup or not.

ETA:  Click here  http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/processingtimes/, and then click on guide to visa application centre processing times.  You will see on this chart that according to recent statistics, 37% of settlement appliations are approved within 30 days and 98% are approved within 60 days.

Just remember that when looking at the statistics they are talking business days not calendar days.

LA is currently the Consulate that has the slowest turnaround times. So I would say if you're not in too big of a rush to get the visa done then you're looking at more like 3 months if you do it yourself. If you want it soon then use an expediter. Especially if you are not the patient type or if you tend to obsess about things out of your control.

We sent our application via USPS.  We are on such a tight time frame, that we have since decided to use Global VIP as well.  When I called and asked if they could stil help even though they have already received our file, they said they may be able to assist.

They will be recieving our info on Monday and go in Tuesday to find out.  I hope they can pull this off.  Has anybody had any luck with this?

Once the consulates receive your application and OPEN IT FOR PROCESSING they will not release it to an expediter for resubmission. If they have only received it and haven't begun processing they MAY release it.

That is why it is important that if you want to use the services of an expediter that you should use on initially as it is not guaranteed that they can do anything to assist you at this point. Prior planning prevents poor progress.
