Topic: Best airlines for transferring frequent flyer miles, free ticket?  (Read 630 times)

I used to fly American Airlines and hated it.  It was like a big Greyhound bus, terrible service, surly flight attendants.  But after four flights to the UK, I got a free ticket.

The rules are constantly changing these days.  What is the best airline to fly in terms of being able to transfer mileage to someone else?  This way, my boyfriend's trip could apply to a future ticket of mine and vice versa.  He needs premium economy because he is so tall, so transferring miles for an upgrade would be good as well.

I love the service on British Airways and like their new uncrowded terminal, so I joined their frequent flyer club only to learn that you get something like half a mile for every real mile you fly.

What have been your experiences?

Virgin Atlantic seems like it has a good program.  Anyone use their mileage/free ticket offers?  Any pitfalls?

My husband uses Virgin and is a member of their FF program, but the miles dont seem to rack up very quickly.

Transfering miles has never been an option with any program I have ever used (even from husband to wife)

United/Star Alliance is a good program, but you cannot transfer miles.

You can transfer miles on United; however, it does cost you.

I use their milage + money tickets at least twice a year and never had issues.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"
