Google Earth

Does anyone else use Google Earth with their SO?   Tim and I go on "adventures" where one of us will send the others a placemark and then tell the other about what we're looking at and we'll give directions like "go south, do you see the green roof?  Veer to the right.." and then tell the other what exactly they are looking at.  It was one way I was even able to show Tim my hometown, since I doubt I'd ever actually take him there.  Tim showed me the different houses he grew up in, showed me where some of his old signal boxes were located, and sometimes we just pick a totally random location (like fiji or something) and we explore via Google Earth together.

I find myself leaving Google Earth open and hovering it over Tim's house. Even though it's not a live satellite picture, it somehow makes me feel closer. Or like a stalker. I haven't decided which :p

Hehe, Steve's made me do that on occasion and he has a good laugh when I get lost on it right in his neighborhood. I just get turned around since it seems that the images haven't caught up with the new construction in their neighborhood so there's an empty lot on google when in reality there's a whole row of houses. Steve has a much easier time of finding my house though, since I live right next to the light rail line, so all he has to do is find that and I'm close by

My street was photographed for Street View last November (I know exactly, because a panel in my garage door had fallen out and was propped against the wall; it wasn't like that for long). My DH got to walk all around it, which was fun.

I *love* flying up and down our road here in the UK.

We didn't do the adventure thing because I only had GE on my work computer in the US, but that's really cute.  I remember how thrilling it was to look at his building and wonder what it was like in his neighborhood (this was before street view, still hasn't been done here).  Now it's my neighborhood, too, and that's still pretty exciting.

My BF travels for work and I'll use it to look around whatever city he's in. 

I was just retracing the route we took on his walking tour of Leicester on GE when I ran across this thread....somehow I keep expecting to see his car in the car park outside his apartment everytime I load it. 

I remember before we even met, he got to see the street view of my apt, which is so old it has my old car showing in the parking lot. I also visit London, Ladybower Reservoir, and Avebury this way...as a previous poster mentioned, and I agree - I know it's not a live feed, but it's a connection...and across so many miles, every little bit helps. (I even look at the southernmost tip of Greenland, since I saw it on my way out there!)
