Finding Local Mover/Labor for Help with Boxes
« on: June 21, 2009, 03:30:35 PM »

... so I've used upackweship to ship a bunch (~50) of boxes from NY to UK.
They are door to door, or curb to curb I guess, as they dont go in to the building/flat.
In NYC, it was very easy/cheap to find a couple people on craigslist to help me bring down all the boxes down to the truck...
...any idea how to do the same thing in London.   Craigslist is not that effective here, should I be trying gumtree or a different site.  They dont have the same handy categories that craigslist US had...  Is this kind of stuff found in the "Removals" section, or like miscellaneous or moving or labor sections...  I dont expect it will be as cheap as in NYC, but any idea on the going flat/hourly rate for someone to help work and bring 25/50 boxes from curb up two big flights of stairs into the flat, etc?

thank you!

On Gumtree, search for "man with a van" and you'll find what you're looking for.

Hi nystacey,

It might be worth giving a local removal company a call, i'm sure if you explain your situation and offer a cuppa and biscuits they'll sort something out for you.
