For more middle class films, what about some of the stuff by Richard Curtis? Things like Four Weddings, About A Boy, Bridget Jones, Notting Hill and Love Actually (I know this one has already been mentioned) etc. Also, Bend It Like Beckham is in the middle class range too.

She wanted films outside of London...

Oh, yeah - oops, sorry, Becca :-[. I was trying to come up with middle class films and I didn't even think about their locations ::).

It is hard though. I've just had a troll through a book I have on movie locations in the UK and it is mainly london based.

While it won't help for the images of England, Made of Honour has shots of western Scotland, but it doesn't really show the middle class. Stone of Destiny has more Scotland. There's also The Man Who Knew Too Little, but I think it's mainly set in and around London.

It's okay, I'm having the same problem myself!

Yeah, that's the problem I was running into. I would think of something, look it up and realize it was London-based....and well, the rest of the country (particularly where we'll be) isn't at all like London!

I thought Bend it Like Beckham was a good suggestion.

I think Millions is set in Cheshire. I'm not going to pretend that finding bags of money thrown off trains is normal life in the UK  ;D but the film shows the way houses are here (you watch the house construction), fields of rape, schools, Christmas Nativity plays, etc.  The details are right.

What about the 7up series?  The most recent ones reflect life in present day Britain, and it covers a number of different locations.

Come over and I'll give you a tour around!!! ;D

All of our phone boxes are still red.....

I may just take you up on that one of these days!  And then you can come and check out Birmingham, where we also still have a few red phone boxes...especially the two up at the top of New Street near the main post office and Victoria Square...

Two Pints of Lager (sitcom) is set in Runcorn and is hilarious, although, again, not terribly realistic. (If you haven't seen it before, it's kind of an Anti-Friends).
