My DH and I are trying to find a company in the UK or US that will cover me for travel ins for my trip back to Arizona. So far in the UK no one will touch me because I have only been living here for 5 months on my spousal visa and the minimum is 6 months (just my luck). Now I have been on-line on US sites and not getting much further to be honest because I am not living in the States! I'm an American living in the UK for less then 6 months and the US site Say's "Coverage for U.S. Citizens traveling overseas as well as Foreign Nationals Visiting the United States" I'm going nuts here! I am stressed out and shocked at how hard it is to get coverage. Does any one have any idea where I should check next.  ??? Any insurance agents out there that can help me?????

Do you have an address you can use in the States?  What you might have to do is purchase a temporary U.S. health insurance policy to cover your trip.  That's what I did on my two previous visits and it worked out fine.

ETA:  Short-term health insurance policy.  That's what it's called. :)

Can you check and see if it could be covered through some other product? For us, we get decent travel insurance through our HSBC accounts.  Maybe you have something like that as well?

I suppose I'm gonna have to use my G-ma's address. So far no luck and I've been on google for hours now. I even called Ins. Companies in the States!

Not sure to be honest, I tried so many I've lost track. I'll take a look now thanks.

I believe STA travel only require a 3-month residency period to be entitled to travel insurance.

From the STA website - Insurance section (bottom of the page):

Insurance is available to UK residents, or those who have been in the UK for a minimum of 3 months.

MeShell is a travel agent. Maybe you could drop her a PM and see what advice she has for you.  :)

STA Travel has been the most promising! I'll ring them just to double check that I am covered in the morning. Thanks for all the quick responses! [smiley=iloveyou.gif] UKY!

To take out Endsleigh Insurance you have to accept their UK residency statements:

Travel Eligibility Statements

You and anyone named on the policy are:

    * Permanent residents of the United Kingdom
    * Registered with a Medical Practitioner in the United Kingdom
    * Travelling from and returning to the United Kingdom

However, in the Travel Insurance FAQ, it says:

10. Can I purchase your travel insurance if I don't live permanently in the United Kingdom?
These policies can only cover permanent residents of the UK who are registered with a GP in the UK. To be considered permanently resident, you must have your main home in the UK and if in employment are registered for UK income tax.

which implies you don't actually have to be a 'permanent resident' in the eyes of immigration (i.e. hold ILR) to take out their insurance. It's worth contacting them and asking, I suppose :).

After many many phone calls we have finally found a company that will cover me! YAY! Although STA Travel would insure me the price was a bit much.  :o  We went with Columbus Travel Ins. It only requires 3 months in the country and my husband and I can be on the same policy for about the same for just me at STA. Needless to say it was the best choice for us. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
