nice ....   how about E13 9LX?

is it true that a six letter/number post code covers a very small tiny area, like 15 households?  ok, maybe a little bit more.... ?

It varies, but usually a street or half a street.

ps supermarket delivery charge is usually about £5 or less.

My postcode covers only 4 of the houses on my street (numbers 1, 3, 9 and 11), but my parents' postcode covers all 12 houses on their road.

why not just make it per house, then you wouldnt need the rest of the address :)

I think I'm looking for at Newham

Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but Newham is not a town... it's the name of the county/borough, so covers a big area.

Just to add what Britwife wrote, Islington is often compared to the Upper West Side in New York, just rougher around the edges in places.

If it’s just for a few months while you get settled, a flat nearer to the Stratford station may be worth considering if only for the transports connections: Central and Jubilee lines, DLR, London Overground, National Rail. You can pretty much access all of London and would be handy when looking for a new flat.

I agree with other posters that a neighbourhood off the Jubilee line (or the DLR) would be ideal, even if it's further out. I've found changing trains much more of a hassle on the tube than the subway in New York and I try my best to avoid it whenever possible.

thanks Britwife and jayvee and all...
I think for the long term place I will definitely consider a place on the jubilee or dlr lines...
I appreciate it :)

My husband was born in Plaistow hospital and grew up in Eastham, E6 post code area. He moved to Northampton in 2001 and now says there is no way he would move back to Eastham.

His mum still lives in the house he grew up in and we are constantly trying to get her to sell up and move to Northampton because of how the area she lives continues to deteriorate.

We take it as a given now that when we visit for a weekend more times than not we're going to come out on a Sunday morning and one, if not both, of our wing mirrors are going to have been knocked off or badly damaged.

My brother-in-laws have both had windows smashed out of their cars and radios stolen on more than one occasion when parked outside her house at night.

May I re-ignite this thread? I hope NYStacey has found a workable solution for her situation. I'm hoping to have the same outcome.

I work in Canary Wharf and SO works in the City, so the DLR looks very attractive to us. Couple of months ago we visited the Thames Barrier Park and in general liked the area very much.. not too far away from the hustle-bustle but accessible easily by DLR.. The quietness and peace surrounding the area really stuck with us then and so when it came time to look for rental places we started looking around in that area (West Silvertown/ Pontoon Dock).

Would anyone have any knowledgeable views on how the Britannia Village is? It's in Newham council and is apparantly walking distance to the West Silvertown DLR. We saw a property today and really like it, but are in double minds to make a quick decision as we hardly know the area. We know that a car is pretty much a necessity. The upmystreet stats on E16 are downright scary but not sure how much to rely on those as I realise that there can be good and bad areas in the same post code.

I was wondering if anyone had anything they can add that we can take in to account while making the decision..?

On one hand we don't want to loose a property we have really liked, but on the other the lack of information regarding the area is scary. I know there's no replacement to spending time in the area but was wondering if anyone had any first hand accounts to share.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just random suggestions, but have you considered perhaps living near Waterloo, or even living along near the Northern line or Bakerloo line as those go right to Waterloo and Waterloo has access to the Jubilee line. If you're still looking at Carnary Wharf for work, London bridge has access to the Jubilee line and the Northern, plus isn't that far from Carnary Wharf.

We lived in Plaistow for 3 months...   it was fine short term, didnt hang out at night and didnt get home late much...
It is more mixed, and the area is just ok.
We almost stayed longer, only because we loved our flat.  It was huge, in great condition and super cheap... but a noisy area, far from center/work or other amenities...
Overall not that bad...  but not that good either... pretty doable however, if you can balance the pros with the cons...   not sure about the safety as others have stated...
