Renewing US driver's license from across the pond
« on: September 24, 2009, 09:02:19 AM »
Hi all -

I have been living in the UK for about 7 years now with my English husband. Before we moved over here I renewed my US driver's license. It's now due to be renewed and they have sent me a notice that I can't renew by post because they want me to take my eye test again.

My concern is, if I contact them saying I live abroad so can I please renew by post, they won't consider the address on the license to be my permanent address, so won't let me renew at all.

I never got a UK license so my US license is the only one I have...

Any advice?

what state are you from?  all driver's license things are so state specific.

If you're planning a trip back to the US anytime soon, I'd just do it then. Otherwise you can try to get it renewed remotely, but since they've already said no to that once, I wouldn't be surprised if they refuse again.
