Foreign Tax Credit
« on: September 09, 2009, 01:39:08 PM »
I'm in the process of trying to fill Form 1116 (Foreign Tax Credit) for 2008, and would really appreciate some clarification on 2 items.

1) If your filing status is married filing jointly, are you required to complete separate Form 1116s for each person per category? Or can one form show combined income and tax paid for each category?

2) If the tax relates to a UK salary that was paid monthly, are you required to use the 12 exchange rates that were in effect when the salary was paid / tax deducted, or can the average rate for 2008 published by the London Embasssy be used instead?

Thanks in advance for any help!

You don't do separate forms per person.  You can use the average rate.
