Things I have learned
« on: August 11, 2004, 03:43:15 AM »
I bet you guys are tired of me posting. BUT here is a lil humor post for you all to break up anyone's bad day.

THINGS I HAVE LEARNED IN MY IMMIGRATION PROCESS

1. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO GO JUST ON UR PASSPORT FOR EXACTLY SIX MONTHS ( u will be questioned, requestioned, and so will ur partner even tho u dont know this)

2. BE SURE that you and ur partner get ur stories straight becuase if they get the diffrent info. they will ask u more questions and u will tend to get dilusonal

3. YOU can get a passport sized photo for 5 -7 dollars at COSTCO and they give it right to u within 5 minutes.

4. BE SURE To be EARLY to the Consulate. U dont wanna be all in line all day,. LUCKILY i work that way anyway, but its usually first come first serve.

5. at  the Califonia Consulate, the place is small, get there early, sign in and  ASK the guy in front if u have an apointment to make sure u get up there and who u are going to see the bald guy with glasses works upstairs , he got me right up .

6. U WILL be searched when going though, not as extensive as airport but u will walk though a metal detector.

7. ITS BEST if u can to go  right up and apply in person once u have all ur stuff together. BECAUSE otherrwise u are just waiting for ur stuff  to get taken care of, its in a pile and  u dont know what's going on.

8. PAY WITH MONEY ORDER - i recomend this cos i tried to do the form online and pay for the process and i got charged twice . the  form i suggest u fill out online and send through, just put that u want to deliver it by HAND or pay by a nother method cos i got charged TWICE and it was not nice.

9.  AT THE COUSULATE IN LA : when u first apply at the  front. they just ask u a few questions they kinda breif u on what u may need for ur interview. it was nice to know this. AND THEN.. l went back and went into a small room with bullet proof glass around the desk area. but it was still priavate and i liked that.

10. ASK FOR HELP if you dont know something JUST ASK SOMEONE and make sure to get all the info they ask for and as much supporting info as you can. if u are staying wiht a friend for free. GET A LETTER  written or faxed to u so that you have that stating they are UK residents and they   are inviting u to stay for free or whatnot.

11. DONT BE AFRAID TO MAKE A MISTAKE things happen and it is scary, but try to have a good support siystem and this website was a great one for me.

 LOL
OKAY if u have any other questions please feel free.

Hi.  I am scott.  I am from LA.  I met my girlfriend in Rome two years ago.  She lived with me in LA for a year and a half and now I am in London with her for six months (as long as I can on my passport).  I am a little confused and interested in your situation.  Did you meet your boyfriend on an earlier visit and then you returned within a year and you were worried about getting through at Hethrow so you decided to go to the consulate and get a six month visa just to be sure?  Can you work on this visa?  Was your concern of not getting in b/c you had just returned?  Hmm.

When my six months runs out here, Amy and I plan to go back to the states for Christmas and then go for the Unmarried Visa b/c we have been together for 2 years.
