Mexican Food Stores in London....
« on: October 02, 2009, 02:34:36 PM »
It seems that with the forum crash there's some info missing on the Ethnic Food Shops....

There was a post about several different mexican food stores in London... I just checked out El Azteca's site and that wasn't the one.

The website had all sorts of dried chilis, real corn tortillas, even tortilla makers...and other things like tomatillos.....

Help! I'm going to London in a few weeks and need to find this place.  Time to stock up on the essentials before going home to the Midlands. :D

THANKS!

Wholefoods in Kensington also has quite a large range of Mexican food items, mainly brands imported from the US & Mexico.  (They even have blue corn chips!!!).

I went to my local vegan supermarket yesterday and they carry the whole line of the Cool Chile Co. Chilis....so they must sell them to other outlets. Call them and ask what local shops near you might have them.

I've seen Cool Chile products in Sainsburys & Tesco too - well in larger branches anyway.

awesome! thanks for the tips everyone.  luckily most mexican food can be made with the fresh ingredients at tesco/sainsburys... but trying to find real corn tortillas has been a bust.  and also the masa and corn husks to make tamales... tomatillos for salsa verde...

however, i did find cholula hot sauce in tesco.  pretty sure i'm the only one buying it too... hahahaha.

What about black beans?  I never thought it would be so difficult to find something so "simple"!  I've checked Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Tesco... Must I go to Kensington Whole Foods to make some quesadillas?? :)

There's a recent thread somewhere around here about black beans. Do you want tinned ones or ones you soak and cook yourself? Because Sainsbury's has the tinned ones except that they're not in tins - they come in little cartons. I bought some a couple of weeks ago and, if I remember correctly, they're just with all the tinned beans (chickpeas, kidney beans, etc.).

I'm too lazy to soak them, so I'd love tinned ones if possible.  I'll have a look for these cartoned ones.   Fingers crossed!

This is the thread. It's not that easy to find becuase black beans isn't in the title.
