Pregnant in US - BF in UK - fun times ahead!
« on: October 19, 2009, 02:22:31 PM »
Yes I found out I am pregnant and we are both happy with it but NOW is the fun part of figuring it all out.

I go back and forth on what I want to do  - yep that emotional roller coaster.
My 50 one-sided conversations
1. I don't want to be baby's mama
2. I don't want to get married b/c I am pregnant
3. I want to marry him because we planned it anyway
4. I never wanted him to move here since he has kids there NOW I want him here

and on and on....

Anyone else every had to do this?  I mean if we get married and I move there where do you start with doctor and stuff!  How long can I wait to get there?
I have so much to do here - like my house? my stuff? my truck? my job?

Ok thanks for the vent and any and all advice will be taken ;-)

I would take one step at a time with baby but if you have plans to move here or there I would sort that out whilst you can and save as much money either side as possible if you are in the US and want him to move out there be aware that you will have to apply from there and the wait is a long one and he will not be able to travel whilst your waiting for an answer.

I would also apply for which ever you decide before baby is born or the expense goes up and you will need to show more money to support him over there 125% above the poverty line.

Look at www.diveintoamerica.com

Good luck with it all

Hey there, well congrats on the baby although it may not have happened quite as you would have hoped. If you do move over here as a spouse, you will be entitled to NHS care so you'll just register with your local GP surgery and they will refer you on to  the midwife service.

Thanks guys!

I mean yeah we discussed marriage and all this was just kinda a surprise but a good surprise.  At least I have a supportive man and we get to actually talk/see each other Skype come Wed night.  He works on an oil rig so we haven't been able to have real real conversations as people are always around.  Cross your fingers as I want this to happen over Thanksgiving while he is here as I think this will be best for us all around.

While being correct that the wait for a US visa is a lengthy one this answer is incorrect in saying that he would not be able to travel while the visa is pending.

No worries - he is NOT moving here.  He has 2 beautiful girls over there and that would be a CRIME in my opinion.  I am hoping I just end up that way as I don't want a LDR dad <sigh>

You can get married in the US without a visa and then just apply as soon as your married ie within a day if you have everything together paperwork wise.

Good luck again and congrats on the baby

Congratulations! You sound excited, even if it's a little complicated with the long distance whatnot.

If you want to get married, don't feel that you're just doing because you're pregnant. Like you said, you already wanted to marry him anyway - and to tell you the truth, part of the reason we got married when we did was because of the long distance thing. Sure, we would have gotten married anyway, but we would have preferred to have waited another year... but the desire to be together, and needing to immigrate to do so, trumped our preferences. Life gets in the way. So if you do decide to get married, don't think it's *just because* you're pregnant!

Otherwise, the two of you will just have to figure it out together. Getting a spouse visa isn't too difficult, as I'm sure you've seen on these boards. Good luck!
Jen
