Getting married with an American pastor

Hello everyone,
I am marrying a wonderful Scotsman  in July in Edinburgh - but I would like my American pastor to marry us - does anybody know what we would need in order to do this - permission from the registry, to have the pastor register in Scotland...?? Any help would be appreciated.

You would probably be better off calling the Register Office in Edinburgh and asking them. You're probably going to get only speculation here.

After doing a bit of research it does look like your pastor might be able perform the ceremony.

We would like a family friend to solemnise our marriage. Is this possible?
In Scotland a religious marriage (which includes other belief systems) may be solemnised only by a minister, clergyman, pastor, priest or other person entitled to do so under the Marriage (Scotland) Act 1977. If it is a religious marriage (which includes other belief systems) you are planning and your family friend is not already authorised to act as a celebrant, the Registrar General can grant a temporary authorisation for a particular marriage. A temporary authorisation can only be granted to someone who is affiliated to a religious body and who is supported by office bearers of that body or other belief system to conduct a marriage ceremony on its behalf.

The page above goes on to detail how the person can get tempoary authorisation, so I'd give it a once over and then give it to your pastor. But I would still contact the Registry Office Directy to ask specifically regarding a pastor from the US...I wonder if he would need a work visa?
