It's the Midlands, not the Artctic
« on: October 18, 2009, 01:06:53 PM »
My Mom wants to buy Jean UGG boots for winter.  UGG boots! On a toddler! I keep telling her it isn't that cold here (she's been in FL too long and has orange juice in her veins) and even if it was I'd buy Jean the £13 Ugg-alike's from NEXT not $53 actual UGGs.  Even my boots are cheap Target ones!

Hubby says he never needed heavy winter boots as a kid - wellies were just fine.  She has a pair of those which she loves and just made me put on her.

So, those of you with toddlers or who have had toddlers here - what sort of winter footwear do they/did they have?

We just got our daughter (17 months) a pair of boots from Adams, she also has a pair of ankle boots from Clarks, her velcro trainers and her pink wellies. That's pretty much it.

My son always wore just regular shoes....he has wellies, but always refuses to wear them. If she wants to buy them for her, why not let her! They are super cute on little boys! (I actually meant little girls...how funny is that!! LOL)

My daughter has some knee length black and purple boots she wears and also Peppa Pig wellies she loves even more. Not to mention her pink and white trainers for the weekends. If Grandma wants to spoil her I don't see any problems with it.  ;D ;)

Calvin (who's 5) wears wellies with thick socks underneath (those slipper socks worked very well last winter!) and we'll do the same this winter!

normal shoes and wellies for those rare bouts of running aboot (no pun intended) in 2-inch 3-hour-lasting snow days

but as Racheeee said, ...why not let her? I would.
Still tired of coteries and bans. But hanging about anyway.

When we lived in Inverness Ethan did have boots for the winter but they were ankle high, not half way up the leg jobbies. Other than that he's always had leather shoes and wellies for wet days.

Seems a little unnecessary, especially since your daughter is in that stage where she is growing very fast and the boots probably won't fit her soon after they're purchased.

My mother always did this, she insisted that I needed special items if, for example, I was taking a short trip with a friend. I would pack my things and when I went to sleep, she would go and repack everything for me and pack items that she deemed important, even though they made my bag heavy. I decided recently to just let her, if it made her feel better if I had extra tissues in my bag (...like five small packs...) I let her have that comfort, I imagine your mom wants the same comfort.

I have learned a valuable lesson when it comes to mothers. Sometimes my mother is very excited about buying something for my son that I KNOW we don't need in the house, but I realise that being far away from her grandchild is really hard, and if it makes er happy to buy me something I don't think that he needs, well, I let her buy it for him. It makes her happy...and sometimes that the important bit. If it makes her happy to buy the kids Uggs, ah well, let her!!! :D
