Any MST3K fans on here?

I'm currently engaging in my weekly pastime of trawling YouTube for Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes, and I was wondering if anyone on the forum is a fan of Joel or Mike and the 'bots.

I have to say that MST3K scenes and lines will pop in my head at inappropriate times and I'll start laughing for no apparent reason. My boyfriend has learned not to question this, for the most part. Like when we go to our GP on Denby Avenue, and I say 'Leave Robert Denby alone!' for example.

So, any other MST fans out there? And who's your favorite host? Favorite evil scientist? Favorite episode? Favorite name of David Ryder of Space Mutiny?

When MST3K did a college tour in 1994 or 95 my roommate won the giant, GIANT bridge orange banner that hang outside the auditorium.  She hated MST3K. Guess who still owns it?

Oof! The ones on YouTube are such crap quality. It's kind of a pain to adhere to their procedures, but the ones at the Digital Archive Project are better. Not broadcast quality, but better. And it least all the episodes are in a single file.

I bought a whole external hard drive to devote to them.

DAP tries to stay on the lighter side of the legal gray area by pulling any episode that appears for sale on DVD. So their list has gotten shorter as more come on the market. Also, the download procedure is deliberately tortuous. Still -- hey, free MST3K!

It much surprised me that my British half 'got' MST3K just fine. Considering there are American pop culture jokes in there so obscure, I'm convinced I have to be the only person in the country that caught them.

I think I may have to revisit Manos: The Hands of Fate once I've steeled myself up for the experience.

Ah, you'll be back to YouTube, then. Manos was one of the first ones to go up for sale, so it isn't available through DAP.

In fact, I just binned my VHS version a few days ago.

Ah well, I don't mind going through YouTube as long as I get to hear the haunting 'Torgo theme'.

It's worth Googling Manos some time. It's kind of interesting.

Do you know why Torgo's knees are like that? He's a faun. Or a satyr, I guess. The dude who played him was an art student who made a really clever costume with hooves and everything. Take that, Narnia! I'm unclear whether full body shots never appeared in the movie, or whether they simply got cut out in the MST3K version by Joel and the bots.

Anyhow, Torgo killed himself several months after filming ended, IIRC. Presumably not because of the sheer awfulness of Manos Hands of Fate..

Oh no! Poor guy.  And hee spent all that time and energy making a satyr costume (which would have made the movie a little better, IMO, or at least make more sense) and it doesn't even get shown!

I watched it again yesterday. It really is mind-blowingly bad. And there's just so much standing around staring ambigously! I think Joel summed it up best when he screamed 'DO SOMETHING!' at the screen.

Now I'm trying to decide between Pod People or Quest of the Delta Knights. Decisions, decisions.
