There are loads, but I like
- Into the Woods
- Sweeney Todd
- Assassins.

Plus he did write the lyrics for West Side Story.

Jeez I didn't know that. Ive seen Sweeny Todd and West Side Story. Sweeny Todd was just a bit odd, slightly scary but with reason, and sad. West Side was ok, had to see it in school. Will look into the others. Thanks for letting me know.

Love some, hate others, saw quite a few... *phantom of the opera, joseph and dreamcoat, annie*- all on bway- and many flicks... LOOOVE Gypsy <rosalind russell-how can u go wrong?> (tho to be honest, most of those loved, are loved for sentimental reasons) ...like *phantom*, which was seen through "make a wish" when my mother was ill.  really, it was awful cheese.  ;}

Well, seeing as I'm finishing a degree in theatre- and musicals are my specialty- I'm sort of a crazy fanatic.

My favorites are varied and some are pretty obscure-

Edges
The Music Man
The Last Five Years
Cabaret
I Love You, Because
I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change
Carrie: The Musical (Yes it exists, and is a musical version of the horror flick)
Beehive
Urinetown
Jersey Boys
A Chorus Line
Sugar: The Some Like It Hot Musical
Ragtime
Into the Woods
And SO many more...

Okay, I should be fair.  Assassins and Sweeney Todd are the only exceptions to my Sondheim dislike.  But I stand by my belief that he's too rhyme-y. ;)

OH!  How could I forget The Threepenny Opera??!?  So fabulously weird and wonderful.

I knew you had to like some of his!  But aren't nearly all musicals rhyme-y?  I mean, most of the lyrics rhyme, right?

True.  There's just something about him that irks me, and I couldn't tell you why I don't mind it in other musicals.  Maybe because it seems like he's always at an extreme - it's either really dark and gloomy, or really light and fluffy.

I suppose it's safe to say I've got an irrational dislike for him.  I'm sure a lot of it has to do with being dragged to see A Little Night Music as a child instead of what I wanted to see - A Chorus Line. :P

Mmm, I see.  I like both A Little Night Music and A Chorus Line now, but as a kid, I think I would have been pretty annoyed to have to sit through A Little Night Music!

I love musicals.

My husband hates them.

I'm working on the kids.  They always end up siding with me.  Always.   :)

Love Sondheim! I saw original cast of Into the Woods on my first ever trip to NY. It was fab and I still have great memories of that show.... Also love Sunday in the Park with George.... and Sweeney is my favourite music from any musical... Hated the film but love the stage show.
