Is there a powder jello (jelly) mix available?
« on: November 14, 2009, 09:35:10 PM »
I am making my famous strawberry cake for a baby shower and the recipe requires jello powder. I know that the jello they have here comes precubed in a gelatinous state. Is there such a thing as the powder.

Saw online "Tesco Strawberry Flavour Jelly Crystals" is this what I am looking for?

I don't know about the Tesco one, but the jelly sachets that Holland & Barrett sell are definitely powder. I forget the brand name, but it's the only one they sell anyway, in little black & white sachets. It's about £1 per sachet.

I buy frozen raspberries at the supermarket to use in smoothies. It's always there! I don't always find strawberries, but I think that's because it's always sold out, rather than because they don't have it. I just buy fresh ones and freeze them myself. I've also seen frozen mango in our Tesco.

I've seen frozen berries at Tesco, near the ice cream.

Isn't Harley's the same thing as Jello?  Used to buy it all the time...comes in sachets of powdered mix that makes jello/jelly.

??? We order most of our Grocery's and frozen fruit doesn't come up on at search engine... the closest thing I can find is strawberry banana smoothie mix? I can use fresh strawberries, but the frozen ones are generally cheaper and when thawed make a watery surgery juice that adds to the flavour of the cake.

Not everything is available in online shopping, so try calling your local branch and asking if they stock it.

Our local Tesco (and it's not large!) has a wide variety of frozen fruit - ours is in the open freezer section (rather than the cabinets) near the frozen veg.

IIRC, most of the online supermarket places do a pretty limited selection of frozen food in general.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I can get both jelly powder and frozen berries at my sainsbury's.  I can't get just strawberries though - costco has a huge bag of frozen strawberries if you can get there.

Frozen berries are a staple in my house because I use them for smoothies every single morning.
