I do ashtanga yoga, but through videos, as I can't be bothered putting clothes on and going to a gym (or washing sweaty exercised-in clothes)  I am probably not doing all the poses exactly correctly, but who cares. It is very good for asthma, by the way :)

Exercising in a steamy room sounds very dangerous, by the way.

I have never done this, but I have loads of friends who swear by it!  I don't think I would want to work out in a room as hot as a sauna though.  I hate the heat!  Wait, I just plain hate working out!

It might be worth going to at least one class so that you do things correctly.  You can get serious injuries if yoga is not done properly.  Worst case - you can break your neck!  (seriously) and lesser case - you can do things improperly for so long that it does affect you slowly....mostly lower back problems.

I have suffered for 2 years with a right leg problem.  I have seen the osteopath, frequented the sports injury clinic locally (thought it was a hiking injury) had MRI's, etc.  What I fould out through my yoga practice is that I was tilting my pelvis incorrectly and that caused my illitibial band in my right leg to work too hard.  Then it affected the way that I walk (more commonly known as your gait).  It took me 8 months to correct it and I still get flare ups.

Videos are great - but they should be used to supplement your yoga practice with a proper class.  Mainly so you don't hurt yourself.

BTW - I have just been signed on by a teacher trainer in the Iyengar Method.  I am WAY excited.  I will begin my teacher training when I get back from my hike next year!  yippee!!

Hey Anne, how about giving her a ring?  Her phone number is posted on that site.  Or would you rather I rang her for you?

OK, I'm back from the US of A. She didn't respond before I left nor while I was gone, so I may have to just bite the bullet and give her a ring this weekend. At the moment I can't even form a complete sentence thanks to the jet lag - it's taking me ages just to type a simple post!  ;)

Oh, and congrats on finding your teacher trainer, Jacky!!!!

Thanks!

Of course I just found out this week that my new yoga teacher-trainer is none other than the Chair-person for the Iyengar Yoga Associaton of the UK!  Yeah okay....can anyone say intimidating??? LOL

I was supposed to meet her tomorrow at a yoga day, but I had a car accident this past Monday and have to take it easy for a bit.  I was hit at high speed from behind...I am SO stiff...thank diety of choice that I have been doing yoga for 3 1/2 years or I would REALLY  be hurting!

Let me know how you get on with your yoga class... see me in 2 years and I might be willing to do personal training...have yoga mat - will travel...  ;)
