Yep, I think that's a great idea. It's what we did for our wedding, and picking our own songs was something fun to do online while we were far apart.

Yeah, we always pass back and forth YouTube music videos.  We aren't planning on any of the traditional dances, either, so the music will mostly be for background noise (and if anyone does want to dance!)

I posted this to facebook, but for those of you not on my FB - if you had a homemade wedding cake, could you post a picture or tell me about it? Did you make it yourself or have friends/family?

We're going to have a completely DIY wedding because I love crafting and cooking,so I'd love to see examples or hear stories!  Our US reception will have about 100 people at it, but I'm used to cooking for crowds, as 64 of the 100 will be my immediate family.
Go for it!  We got married back in the hippie days so doing everything yourself wasn't too outlandish.  I made my own wedding dress (just a yellow sprigged cotton, long and slightly Medieval, of course  ;)) and my maid of honor made hers as well.  I also made a wedding cake although my grandma had provided a traditional American-type white cake one.  I felt that the tradition of fruit cake was so strong in the UK that we really ought to have that as well.  So I made a large Christmas cake.  No fancy decorations or anything.  Sorry, no pics.

We had one small top cake and then a bunch of cupcakes all around it. I would have made my own cake or cupcakes but a really good friend of the family wanted to get our cake for us as a wedding gift! Probably better off that way as I was stressed out and didnt need anything else to add to it.

I cant figure out how to put a picture in here so here is a link instead!

My free response cards from VistaPrint arrived today, so I'll be spending tonight putting together my invitations so I can put them in the mail tomorrow!  (Will post photos later)

We priced out reception food and between BJs and Wal-Mart will be spending $140ish.  The rest of the food should cost less than $60, so looks like we're handling food for only $200 :D

My friend has decided to gift us the wedding cake, so that's off our shoulders.

Tim is going to H Samuel's tomorrow to order our rings.

This weekend, we're making a mock-up of the chest part of my dress (pattern measurements claim I'm 4 sizes bigger than I usually wear, so we want to double check before we cut into the real fabric).  Monday, we're buying the fabric (50% coupon for Columbus Day!)

After some frantic panicking, the judge in Millersville is going to marry us on November 5, and I've booked the reception site for November 6.  I even managed to get us a honeymoon suite at a local hotel that has a jacuzzi for only $119.

Things are going so well for us! YAY!

Juniper - I can't believe how easy this is for me. I really think having the short time frame is what is helping my motivation!

BostonDiner - Thanks!  We picked Guy Fawkes because we were teasing each other about the poem "remember remember"....and the date stuck in our heads!

When we got married in June, I had some of my green-thumbed friends grow flowers for me. It was important to me to have local, in-season flowers and not hot-house ones. Then I sourced a ton of vintage jugs from carboot sales to put them in. And another artist friend illustrated the table cards with ink and watercolour pictures of flowers. It was great and looked like this and this.

I liked having all the tables a bit different from each other.

We also borrowed MILES of bunting from another friend and it looked lovely!

So do I! Were those the actual flowers from your wedding or just the same idea because those are beautiful.

Ooh, I love it.

I'm going with silk flowers for the wedding for a few reasons, though the biggest one is economical.  I got all the flowers I need for teh wedding for $80!  Plus, I have really bad allergies to a lot of flowers and don't want to be sneezing while getting married. Also, I can take my silk bouquet with me to the UK and have it at the UK reception :)

Today we made a mock up of my dress out of an old sheet. After 6 attempts, we finally got something that fits and looks good.....and we aren't using a single piece of the original pattern.  Whoops.
