Tea cakes & their USA equivalent?
« on: March 09, 2010, 03:35:28 PM »
Hello,

I am on the hunt for tea cakes.  My bf in England teases me all the time by eating these chocolate tea cakes with marshmallow inside and some sort of red jam inside.  THEY LOOK SO GOOD.

I was wondering if there is a USA equivalent?

PS>  Do you like these tea cakes?
 ;D

Sadly I don't think there is an equivalent here in the US!  I think you'd have to check in a store that carries a variety of British foods.

Ive done some investigating and it looks like the equivalent is Whippet cookies, that are from canada and some in the USA.

YUMMY

Or the wikipedia entry suggests Mallomars?  The whippet cookies definitely look similar.

Do you have a Cost Plus World Market in your area?  They sell real tea cakes there.

You can get them, but I haven't seen them with jam, just chocolate and marshmallow.

These are the ones I got for my friend who loves them.

I may be wrong, but that looks like a wagon wheel, rather than a teacake

Not a huge difference obviously :)

Mallomars look similar but without the jam :)

Isn't that what a tea cake is?  Chocolate with marshmallow and a biscuit?  The Tunnock's ones don't have jam do they?  The ones I have don't.

Ahh.  Confusing and I can't test any because of Lent.  LENT!

Apparently Pinwheels are only sold in winter because of melting issues, so if you want them better get them now.
