Somebody Help. (Housing Terminology)
« on: December 12, 2009, 11:17:55 PM »
I've been meaning to ask this question for quite sometime now.

What is the difference between a Studio Flat and a 1 Bed Room Flat? Why do the prices vary?

A studio is one room, meaning your kitchen/living/bedroom are all in one room. A one bedroom has a separate room to use as your bedroom.

Prices vary like any apartment anywhere. Some are in nicer areas, some more modern, some furnished, some not, some have certain bills included... some not. Agencies sometimes charge more than private. Studios will be small in my experience in London.. some tiny..in the heart of the city. My flat now with 2 bedrooms just outside London costs the same as my tiny studio that I once had in Fulham. Some studios mean there is a separate kitchen and some you have a sink near your bed.

Yes, be careful of this when looking at ads/viewing studios. I've been looking at studio ads, and I've seen some not have an oven, just burners (!). Also, some studios are really bedsits, but are advertised as studios. In a bedsit, you have your own room with a tiny kitchen, but the bathroom is in a communal area shared with other bedsit tenants.
