Taqueria review

I dragged my colleagues to Taqueria off Westbourne Grove earlier this week. They are the same people who do the Cool Chile Co. products. I had the carne asada tacos which were very very good, and the guacamole was absolutely perfect. They did use corn tortillas for the quesadillas, which I found a little bit strange. The portions are pretty small, almost like tapas, so I would recommend ordering a few different items.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of the side items that I ordered, as the ceiling caved in whilst we were eating!! Seems like there was a big leak upstairs. Plus side, we didn't have to pay for any of our food, as we were rushed outside before anyone got hurt.

Yikes, that's awful!  Hope they can fix it soon.

I used to love going to Taqueria when I lived in London.  Definitely worth a trip.

That sounds great (aside from the collapsed roof!) Wish it weren't so far from me. 

I loved going there when I resided in the UK.  Closest "real" mexican food I could find.

Does anyone go to Tortilla opposite Angel station?

It's pretty decent. The guy who owns it is dead friendly too - I went with a whole group of us once and he gave us all free margaritas and chatted with us for a fair while! He heard the accents...

I've been to Tortilla once, and really liked it. I hate that all the burrito places are in Islington as it's miles from me.

There is a place called Freebird Burrito (don't think there is any relation to the Freebirds Texas chain) in Soho that I've heard is really good.

I vastly prefer Chilango (the former Mucho Mas) to Tortilla.  It's just up the street from Tortilla's Islington location.

I guess I'm all alone on this but I thought Taqueria was god awful. I had chilaquiles verdes and tacos pibil. The chilaquiles weren't prepared properly at all...they literally just dumped green sauce on tortilla chips.  The tacos weren't right either...they should be prepared on a spit like gyro meat, but instead it was just chopped up bits of pork with pineapple. I know I have high standards (I'm married to a Mexican who likes to cook) but I just felt like the food was pretentious and WAY overpriced for what I actually received. 

On a happy note, I was really happy with the nachos at Mexicali on Fulham Road. Granted it's Tex Mex, not trying to be real Mex like Taqueria, but they were very American in a good way (tons of cheese good guac, etc.) and the price was right.

Yes to both of the above!

I liked Taqueria, but I did find the prices for small portions to be pretty high.  Our bill was almost double our 'usual' Wahaca bill for significantly less food. 

I definitely prefer Chilango to Tortilla, too.
