Hi!
« on: August 02, 2004, 05:58:55 AM »
Hello,
what a cool site!!

It appears to me that people are pretty friendly here so am going to ask a couple of questions that maybe can help me with or steer me in the right direction.

First of all, I suppose i should give some background info:

My name is Scott, I am a 33 year old male currently residing in California.
My mother..wait..Mum..(hehe) was born and raised in England and moved to the states when she was 18 years old. my grandparents followed in 1976 because they were to far from their grandkids in England.

My whole life I have been facinated with the UK. I attribute it to my British blood but, I enjoy the culture, the history, the music, the arts, everything about it.

Lately, I have had strong urges to move to the UK. I have always wanted to do this but usually racked it up to foolish young behavior. Now, I mean it, I want to go, I have a strong desire to go. Deep down I believe it is where I belong. I have family members there that are more than happy to put me up for awhile, so that isnt a problem..excuse me if this post seems irratic..LOL..but IM very excited and a little nervous..:)

My main question is, if I go to England with just my passport, for a visit and whilst Im there decide I want to live and work there, is it possible?

Do I have to get a job before I leave America, or can I go with my passport, which allows me to visit up to 6 months, and within that time if I can get a job (which shouldnt be a problem, I have a few conncetions in the UK) do I get a work visa while Im there?? Does this question make sense?..LOL

I hope i was clear enough in my question. Any help anyone can give would be fantastic, and hopefully lloking forward to meeting up with some of you when i arrive!

Scott

You know.. I really used to know all of the immigration laws and such, but have since forgotten.  I'm thinking you could (farily) easily apply for citizenship/right of abode, but I don't know what exactly would be involved.  Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I'm sure others here can provide some info :)   How exciting!!  Oh yeah, and welcome to the site.  :D

Contact the British Home Office or Embassy.  You should be eligible for a British Passport with no problem.  Then you can come and go as you please.  :)

It's been moved to the Immigration forum.  Under the title-British Mums, UK citizenship.   :)

it's moved over to the Visas & Immigration Board, don't worry, it's all still there!
