Connecting an i-pod touch to a TV
« on: January 17, 2010, 07:05:18 PM »
I was wondering if anyone knew which cable was best for connecting an i-pod touch to a TV to watch videos that had been downloaded onto the I-pod? I had a look on amazon and they had quite a few but I was rather confused as to which would be best.  It's a UK i-pod and TV if that makes a difference.  Thanks in advance! :)

I'm not sure about any third party cables, but Apple make both a composite and component cable to connect your iPod Touch to a TV.  Which one you need just depends on which type of TV you have.  They're a bit pricey though at £36 each.

I bet if you googled iPhone AV cable you'd find a third party cable which was better priced. (One made for the iPod may not necessarily work for the iPod touch so make sure it says it works for iPod touch before you buy).  Good 3rd party brands to stick with are Belkin and Monster, if you find any made by them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Lilro

I have no experience on connecting an Ipod directly to a TV - however, there are ways I believe from my brief skim reading of media players etc.

What I wanted to point out is that as the shows you've downloaded to your Ipod are more than likely quite compressed files, when you play them back on a large screen TV the resulting video will probably look quite atrocious. It'll most likely be pixellated and not really very watchable and thus, enjoyable. This is due to the compression used to make the file fit into your ipod and also the resolution used to achieve that - they'll be quite low ratios.

Have a look at Media streamers as well as some of them can play back MP4 movies and/or DRM/Apple TV formats. Please do some more research on Apple forums etc for more info.

Cheers, DtM! West London & Slough UK!
