Approved for UK American Express Card!

Surprise, surprise. It seems I've been approved for an American Express card in the UK! I have no job (still trying ) & I've only been here since October, but I guess since I've got a US American Express card they decided to give me one! (After sending a copy of my visa & my UK bank statement).

So if anyone else out there is having trouble establishing their UK credit, and has had a US American Express card - this seems to be the way to go.

Any other experiences like this?

Is it widely accepted in the UK?  On the continent Amex isn't often accepted many places (high fees to the vendor). 

Still useful if you wish to establish credit, so maybe doesn't matter.

Darn -I wish I had known this - I just canceled all my CC except one.  Did a big consolidation loan to get them all paid off while I am there...

congrats! AE is handy, it might not be accepted everywhere but its great for groceries and just building credit. I was hoping to see about a CC in a year just to get some credit started. Glad to hear you found it quite easy to get one

That's great news!  I have a thread on here somewhere about which places accept AmEx and which don't--mostly I've found that high street shops do and little stores don't.  So, yeah, for groceries and whatnot it works well.  I also got a Barcalycard Initial card after being here for three months--I had to call, as they wanted more address history than I had in the on-line application.  The credit limit isn't big (about 10% of my AmEx limit), but it's a Visa, so I can use it just about everywhere.
