What to wear to a wedding

I have a wedding in the spring and not sure about wearing a wedding hat, they look kind of neat and it is a formal wedding but not sure if wedding hats are just a bit too british and I look like I am trying too hard or its just something for little old ladies.  Anyone wore one to a wedding?

I haven't but I definitely would if I went to a British wedding.  There are lots of non-hat like things you can wear such as a fascinator; loads of women wear them.

I, personally, wouldn't wear one because hats don't suit me, but I really like the tradition of wearing hats to British weddings and if you want to wear one, go for it. I don't think it's trying too hard at all.  

Guests wore hats at my UK wedding reception.  My American friends had a lot of fun with it. 

When my DH and I were married his family and our UK friends all wore hats (it was a stateside wedding) and my family and our US friends loved them. Like was said I am not sure they suit me either

I love wearing things on my head, so I'd definitely do something! If you don't like hats, there are some gorgeous fascinators out there. And if you don't like those, you could always put your hair up with a big silk flower or something. But there are so many cool styles of hats and fascinators, that there's really something to suit everyone!

I got married in June, and people (American and British) wore hats, fascinators or nothing on their heads. There's no firm rule - just do what you feel comfortable with!

That's a nice idea.  Plus the fascinator thing I like, but have never tried one (yet).  I would never wear a hat because like pkmac I don't thing they suit me.  I also think a lot of hats look very mumsy and old-ladyish, but perhaps when they are on it's a different story.

I went to a millinery workshop earlier in the year, and they showed you which style of hat suits you best. It was amazing what a difference some of them made to people! There were some teenage girls in the workshop too - and they looked fab in their hats!

First, get your dress, then figure out what to go with it - hat, fascinator, flower or nothing.  No point finding a hat etc. you like only to find it doesn't go with your dress.     Monsoon do really good headpieces (at a nice price) and you can find hats just about anywhere.
