'A Shopper's Christmas Wish'

The thread in Food about finding UK substitutes for US foods reminded me of this article that ran in The Guardian last week. I had fun reading through the comments - especially about Reeces peanut butter cups!

Wow, reading the comments made me hungry!  (except the person that suggested Club Orange; yuck!)

Even though it's still hard as heck to find a lot of things here, in my case at least, it's gotten marginally easier.  Tesco started carrying Oreos in the last year or so, the EuroSpar across town has a little Tim Hortons section that makes really good Boston cream donuts, a couple of shops have started carrying both Reeses peanut butter cups and Reeses Pieces, and the Aldi in Donegal has the dinner rolls that you find in the refridgerated section in the can thingy that pops open. The only thing I'd really love to see here, since it can't be shipped, is Claussen Kosher Dill pickes.  DH doesn't really have to worry about missing things much since most Irish products can be easily found in the north.  The only thing we can't get up here is Liga (kind of similar to Farley's Rusks) and both my kids love them, so MIL posts us a couple of boxes a month.

I've had a few pair of gold toe socks and they were ok. My favorite socks are from Costco. I don't even know what brand they are but they are so cozy. As far as food goes I can pretty much do without a lot of US foods, find something similar, or make my own and be fine with it. My only exception is Hidden Valley Ranch. It has to be HV or nothing.

I found Kraft Macaroni & Cheese in ASDA today and stocked up!...I have a toddler it must be done

Our local Tesco's metro just started stocking Oreos consistently.  They're what I crave when I'm PMSing, so both DH and I were *thrilled* to see them there.

Some of the comments are funny.  Some guy saying that he'd rather eat pickled mountain goat testes than Reeses pieces (or something like that).

I noticed refrigerator rolls in our Sainsbury's.  I am not sure if they taste like the ones in the US or not (it looked like they were crescent rolls).

I do miss really good rye bread.
