London Area Book Club - 6 March 2010
« on: January 20, 2010, 06:01:49 PM »
The Book Club will meet to discuss Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee.
Quote
At fifty-two, Professor David Lurie is divorced, filled with desire but lacking passion.  When an affair with a student leaves him jobless, shunned by friends, and ridiculed by his ex-wife, he retreats to his daughter Lucy's smallholding.  David's visit becomes an extended stay as he attempts to find meaning in his one remaining relationship.  Instead, an incident of unimaginable terror and violence forces father and daughter to confront their strained relationship--and the equally complicated racial complexities of the new South Africa.

We will meet at the Starbucks, downstairs at Waterloo Station at 3pm.  Please feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions or would like my mobile number so you can make sure you find us.

We are a very fluid group, and welcome newcomers and their book opinions with open arms, so don't be afraid to join us.  You might meet your new best friend!

Hi Karrit,

Disgrace is a good choice...since it's a prize winner there are plenty of copies available from the library.  I have finished reading it and am looking forward to meeting you (and the others) on the 6th.  Thanks for organizing this!

Great!  You are ahead of me then.  I plan on reading it in the next week or so.

We look forward to you joining us.
