well we will be moving to west midlands area. I am in IT so will be looking once I get there. I am looking forward to it as well since I have been there a few times. It seems people are a lot more exposed to things there. Are you still able to do some of the american traditional things like Thanksgiving, playing football, etc. How long did it take you to get a job? Whats the interview process like there? Are you able to watch most of the american sports?
You can have Thanksgiving here, if you want! I mean, the whole country isn't celebrating with you, of course, but most of us still find some way to celebrate in our own way - my own tradition is to make dinner for my in laws and then get on the webcam with my family back in the states afterwards. Some people celebrate on the weekend after Thanksgiving, as its hard to get friends and family together on a Thursday. Lots of people still celebrate the 4th of July and other holidays across here, too. You really have to decide for yourself how to do that, though.
I don't know much about sports, but my husband likes American football and used to play it in school over here. I am sure you might meet some people who would want to play with you. There are sports packages you can purchase for cable television to watch the games, I believe. You might find that you get sucked into soccer, otherwise known as
real football on this side of the pond!
Getting a job is a much longer process here, I believe. It can take quite a while to get interviews set up and things like that. Some people find it difficult to get a job and get frustrated. It differs for everyone. You really can't gauge that until you get moved over here and start looking. There are lots of employment agencies you can sign up with to help you look for work.
If you have a scroll through the forum, you will find lots of these topics have been covered, so you can get a lot more information that way, or just have a look at the wiki for this site.
Good luck!
