Staying in a Hotel with a 9 Month Old
« on: January 08, 2010, 09:02:51 PM »
This may be a dumb question but DH and I are stumped.  We are taking our 9 months old on his first flight ever over to the US in April.  We'll be staying in a hotel for 4 nights while we're there and I am wondering what people do with babies while staying in a hotel?

He goes to bed at 7pm which will obviously change while he's adjusting to the time difference but that is still going to be our goal bedtime for him.  We can't afford a 2 room suite and I wouldn't put him in a separate room anyway while staying in a hotel.  So, what do people do in this situation?  Do we just tiptoe around and keep the TV volume on low until we want to go to sleep as well? Or is there an obvious solution that I am completely missing? ???

This is pretty much what we did...but our daughter is used to noises going off when she's asleep and she sleeps so soundly that you could set a bomb off next to her and she'd sleep through it. We were able to just keep the lighting muted and the tv at normal level.

Yep, that's it basically.  ;) Babies are good at sleeping through TV noise anyway, in my experience.

I usually like to get a suite rather than one single room, this way we can put the kid to bed in his own room and do what we want to ourselves (get a takeaway and watch tv) but to be honest, I would just keep the kid up with you to your schedule, ie go out to dinner with him etc, and put him to bed when you go to sleep, or maybe he will fall asleep earlier, just watch TV and go about your business! They sleep better than you think!!!

you've got plenty of time to try to train the LO to sleep amidst noise so you don't have to tiptoe.

Yeah, we've been trying to train him from day one and he's okay with it but he's not really had anyone else making noise in the same room as him while sleeping overnight before.  I think he'll be okay though.

Thanks everyone.  I feel better.

Yeah see this is the attitude I need to have.  Just chill out!  I am always worried about keeping to schedules but when we're on holiday I am just going to go with the flow.

Schedules are overrated. ;)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I know, I know.  I am working on chilling out.  Unfortunately for the kid, DH and I are both kind of high strung. :P
