Setting up business in US

My partner and I have been discussing moving to the US (still early talks). He is a tattooist here in the UK, so obviously he will be doing that in the US. Since he has no credit history in the US, how would he go about setting up a shop in the US? I understand a tattooist isnt on the shortage list of jobs required in the US,so he wouldnt be able to get a work visa, but we would probably be married at that point in time. So what would he have to do to set up a business there?

thanks for the link,but rather then register and get use to how to navigate that site, i thought people on here might be able to answer,since I know some people on here have done similiar stuff

DIA can be a bit slow compared to UKY. But it's certainly worth having a look at. However, to try to answer your question... he's going to need help if your plan is to set up shop immediately. It will take time for him to build credit so either he will need to rely on your credit history, if you still have any, or on friends or family who are willing to help.

Renting a place to have the tattoo shop in is probably not that hard. I know many expats who have done residential rentals without credit. But if he needs insurance and equipment, that might be the stumbling block. Given the specialzed nature of his work, you may end up having to research this very specifically (i.e. phoning insurers, suppliers, etc) to see what they say.

I can't offer any advice on starting up the business, but it might help him to get some work at an existing shop first.  This way he can earn some money/build up some credit plus have the added bonus of seeing how tattoo shops are regulated and run in the US.  It would also allow him to build up a customer base and a good reputation, so that when he eventually does have his own shop, he might have some regulars to follow him.
