Thanks, It is quite a list! I did the same thing I have changed number and crossed off about half of the list. Its just a guide from a retailer not something to live buy.

I am due in June and have only got a couple things so far. I am waiting till my 20 week scan to buy a couple bigger things that might need time to deliver. I haven't even began to clean out our office so we can turn it into a nursery.

I've used the sink, but also loved the Tummy Tub:

I was reading an article about the tummy tub and they had a photo of this product with a baby in it with it so full the adult had to hold to baby's head above water. The baby looked really unhappy sitting there.

I have 3 kids and never had a baby bath.  I just used the sink and tub.  You get used to handling them pretty quick.  They do get slippy, but I never had trouble with it.

We never went in for the buying tons of stuff, but ended up getting an amazing amount of baby gifts when the kids were born.  My  advice would be to get the bare minimum and figure out how much extra you need after the baby arrives.

We started Jean out with one of those bath seat hammocky things but she didn't like it and preferred a baby bath with a sponge insert that we took out as she got bigger.  Now she's just in the regular bath.

Jean was 6+ pounds at birth and is still running pretty true to age sizes at 20 months.  I'd say mainly go with sleepsuits for the first month and let the family buy lots of cute outifits!

DH just bathed DSS in the tub with him. I think DH just sat in the tub and put the baby on his belly and washed him that way (like Raeyn suggested - I'd use a towel to keep the baby from sliding off you, though!) It worked out fine for him.

I found the baby bath really useful as the bathroom in the flat we were living in was very cold so I used the baby bath to bath him in the lounge. You can get cheap ones for about a fiver if you're not sure how much use you'll get out  of it.

We bought pretty neutral sleepsuits for DD and we're reusing them now for baby #2.  I know the sex, DH doesn't...   ;D  We initially bought suits in sizes 0-3, but when DD was born she was 8lbs and swimming in the suits, so we went out and bought a couple sets of newborn sized suits that she wore for about 2 months.  DD was on the 90th centile for everything except head circumference and she manages to wear most clothes well past their guideline of usage.

We used a baby bath for DD, which she was using until she was about 18 months - per her preference.  We got it as a set from Mothercare with a towel and top & tail bowl.  Now she uses the bath at our house and uses the kitchen sink (sits on draining board / in the sink depending on her mood at in-laws as their bathroom and tub (with shower door thingie) layout render giving her a bath there useless.   :P  My in-laws bought their baby bath (identical to ours) for £1 secondhand off a market stall.

If you go to buy half the stuff on the lists try to find items that multi-task or transition for longer use it not only saves money, but space in the home.  ie) our baby monitor also has a room thermometer built in which we can set the alarm if temps drop too low or go too high).   ;)

May is ages away!!  (Or at least that's what I'm telling myself.)  I'm due in June and I'm not buying anything for now.  I had to be forced to even buy maternity clothes.  (I'm just nervous.)

With my first pregnancy my MIL told us it was bad luck to have anything in the house before the baby was born (well too soon anyway - she's very superstitious), so we didn't get most pieces of furniture until a month or so before DD was born nor decorate her room, although she didn't move into her room until she was about 8 months old.  We bought pieces as needed, so only had a Moses basket to start with, then bought Cot when DD was about 7 months, an inflatable bed in preparation for a "big girl bed" (23 months) and now awaiting delivery of her "big girl bed" (25 mos).
