Silly memory...
« on: January 20, 2010, 07:38:01 PM »
I saw some other posts on the Food thread, and they mentioned getting Lucky Charms and all sorts of other American food from a delivery place.

That just reminded me of something, though. I went to Trafford Centre in 2007, when I was visiting DH(DF then, of course) and his mate David and David's wife Tasha. Tasha's from America, too, and at the time, they lived in Manchester. Well, as she said, for a laugh, she took me to Selfridge's, but, didn't say what she was going to show me.

We went to this area that had loads of display tables with all sorts of American treats and snacks(Lucky Charms, Hershey bars, etc. etc.). They were all lit up from the bottom, like the sort of tables used to display posh perfumes and make-up.
I was gobsmacked. The prices were outrageous, I thought at the time, for things that were so basic in the States.

I don't know if I just imagined it in my jet laggy haze, or it was real, or if it was just a one off, but, I seem to remember walking round with my mouth hanging open in shock.

That's funny, abbygirl!  It sounds as if you are describing a dream you can't quite remember, with those lit tables--very surreal, just like a dream!  I bet it really did happen, though...

Yep they have all that there...One of the places I always visit when we come over to the UK from the IOM...they want something like 6 quid for cereal...I don't think so...

I buy the Walmart brand of cereal and bring them flat packed back in my suitcases...lol

Yeah, the import costs on American food goods are outrageous; I think we paid something like £12 for a 12-pack of soda cans. :s  I keep meaning to go harass my military friends to raid the commissary for me, but I feel a bit cheeky about it...
