Dentist??
« on: January 22, 2010, 05:34:10 PM »
Hi all, we've been in the UK for a little while now but so busy we've not done some basic stuff like get set up with a GP or a Dentist.  I was home over the holidays and had my teeth cleaned and a small cavity was discovered.  I've had so many warnings about UK dentists from friends, family and especially American dentists I'm not willing to just try my luck.  Does any one know any American trained dentists in south Manchester area, Wilmslow - Knutsford?  Or highly recommend some one we can start to use over here?

Thanks in advance,

T

Mods: sorry if in wrong location but did not know where to post and did not see any where obvious for this post but may have over looked something.
To finish first first you must finish

You don't need an American trained dentist. You just need a good one.

I ADORE my dentist and he's English. But he's in Thame in Oxfordshire, so I'm guessing you don't want that sort of commute. He's at Park Street Dental though - Dr Coffey - so I suppose if you were desperate you could ring and see if he could recommend someone in your area. Oh and he's private - I wanted some cosmetic stuff (e.g. a white filling) that wasn't available on the NHS so I was willing to pay. 01844 698366.

As for not sorting out a GP - that's just silly. Registering takes no effort at all, but if you're taken ill the last thing you want to do is faff around trying to find a doctor.

I have private dental care, too. I use DenPlan insurance which, I think, is very reasonable.

I agree - you just need a good dentist, not specifically an American-trained one. Why don't you ask friends or colleagues for some recommendations? I've found that's the best way to find a good dentist.
