Moving to FL Driving on UK Licence
« on: April 17, 2003, 11:41:21 PM »
Hi,
my wife and I are moving to Florida in early June.  I have US citizenship and she has recently aquired a Visa.

We both have UK licences and will need to be able to drive once we get there.

Does anyone know how long we will be able to drive in Florida before needing to pass a test.  We will also need to buy a car and insure it.  Is this possible before getting a licence each.

Regards

Bill McDonald

I believe you will have 30 days from the time you establish residency.

Check out this site:
Who Needs a Florida Driver's License?

You should be able to hire a car on your UK license...I don't think you can buy one.
Married to Graham, we run our own open-source computer training company in beautiful Wiltshire out of our 1814 Georgian Regency home (a former lodging house and once featured in Antiques Roadshow)

Bill,

You should be able to both buy and insure one on a British licence, though the insurance may have a load factor on it, and not all insurers will want to insure you.
