This weekend in UK?
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:12:00 AM »
Crap. Just realized this weekend is Valentine's Day and me and the spouse need to do something fun. Now I'm trying to find a way to get out of here- London- and go pretty much anywhere. Must be on this island, as husband can't leave. I really like travelling in the UK but this always makes me crazy- without a car and/or two months advance planning it's impossible to go anywhere without spending a ridiculous amount of money. I mean, I still haven't been to York after five years, sounds very pretty, but the train fares are crazy. Any suggestions? Just some nice inn somewhere, whatever, just for Saturday night, reachable without sitting on a bus for five hours or spending our Turkey travel budget just to go to Yeovil overnight.

I'd probably check the weather for different regions first, if I were you. At this time of year, I can't imagine anything worse than a grey, gloomy weekend ANYWHERE!  :-\\\\

Haha!

Chary, that weather IS the UK weather isn't it?!!!

Ok enough of the usual UK weather crying!

Molly Picon - sounds as though you are somewhere in the South West of the country? - I'm sure if you look around just a little way out and locally, there's plenty of B&B's in the countryside or a small village or small town a little way away with somewhere you could stay ?

If that's still not possible, perhaps hitting some of the quieter pubs in your town that night you haven't been to before would suit?! do a bit of a pub crawl, have dinner booked at a small restaurant etc and make the best of what you do have on yer doorstep?

Cheers, DtM West London & Slough UK!
