Cheese Withdrawals
« on: October 31, 2004, 05:37:13 AM »
As the subject states, I'm missing good English cheeses.

I'm fed up eating rubber with orange food coloring.  Even my six year old son tried some "mature" cheddar from the deli and said "it tastes like nothing."  The specialty cheese sections in the grocery store has some French and Italian cheeses, some Gouda and Havarti, but not much else.

My mission now is to source some good imported cheddar.  I've always said that I eat too much cheese and that it goes straight to my hips and would be better off without it.  I DIDN'T MEAN IT!  I take back what I said; just give me some good English cheese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kellie, as a cheesaholic myself, I sympathise! Good luck finding your cheese!! :) You could try the Paxton and Whitfield site, they apparently do world wide mail order, although I suspect it is on the pricey side:

If I remember correctly, Central Market used to do a massive range of cheese - when my husband and I went on our occasional pilgrimages to our closest store, I think the cheese selection seemed to cover an entire wall.  :o

Kelli... try some of the Cabot Cheeses... their speciality ones  (vintage reserve).  Also Grafton Cheese in the purple or black wax cheddar is very good.  It's from Vermont and very good and strong.

Good imports ott he USA are Neal's Yard: Montgomery and Isle of Mull Cheddars.  You need to go to Harry's or Whole Foods.  It depends on where you live.  Give me the state and I will find a source for you. There are a few New York based shops.

You cna also look for local dairy's.

In Georgia the Sweet Grass Dairy does  prize winning cheeses. http://www.sweetgrassdairy.com/

Tillamook does nice ones too http://www.tillamookcheese.com/
and Zingerman's http://www.zingermans.com/Category.pasp?Category=cheeses

Here's a list of places that sell cheese!
