Sorry for being lazy...
« on: August 11, 2004, 05:31:45 AM »
I was going to check to see if this question was posted before but my computer is so slow and I was lazy  ;D

I was just reading what you need to take with you to the Entry Clearance Officer and it says:

Evidence that you and your spouse can support yourselves and your dependants without recourse to public funds may include one or a combination of the following documents according to your circumstances.

a) Letter from your spouse’s employer in the United Kingdom stating the position in the company, length of service, annual salary and whether the position is permanent.
b) Offers of employment for either/both parties including details of salary.

c) Recent statements of bank and saving accounts showing sufficient means of support while employment is sought in the United Kingdom or for indefinite support if no employment is planned.

d) Educational or vocational certificates and C.V. to demonstrate qualification for potential employment in the area in which you plan to live.

e) References from previous employers.

f) Enquiries made regarding employment in the United Kingdom.

g) Plans for self-employment in the United Kingdom

This scares me a bit. Al is self employed and doesn't really have a "salary", what kind of salary do they expect the British citizen to be making? Has anyone had any bad experiences with this issue? How strict are they?

I'm going to be applying in Los Angeles, I don't know if that makes a difference.

thanks,
Alz  ;D

I took in a, d, e and f.  Does Al have an accountant or someone who prepares his accounts?  If so, I reckon he could have his accountant draw up an affidavit or a letter indicating what his profit and losses were for the most recent tax year (2003-2004).  A copy of his accounts might be good to have as well.  If anything, contact the consulate and ask them.  My husband was working for a temp agency on an assignment that ended right before he came to the US.  So he got a letter from them stating that he was working for them and what he was paid hourly.  The consular folks were quite happy with this.

My husband was (and still is) self-employed when we applied for the Fiancee Visa and I took in 2 letters from companies he had regular work with stating how long they had contracted with him and what the average monthly invoicing they received from him was.  I also took in bank statements and copies of my husband's invoices to the companies for the previous 6 months.  That way they could match up the invoice amounts with the deposit amounts if need be.  He does his own taxes so nothing from an accountant or anything.
