Getting Tax help in the UK
« on: March 02, 2010, 06:07:54 PM »
Has anybody used Greenback Tax Services to prepare their tax returns? if so how was the experience? I would like to know how the business of uploading forms went, how easy the process was, did you need to do any phone calls to them and how they were handled, was the advertised rate of $299.99 respected, and would you recommend them.
This will be my first year of filing with the IRS from the UK and I am very apprehensive, any feedback is appreciated. Including any recommendations for any other tax prepares  that you have used.
Thanks ???

I find the company website very confusing.  I cannot tell if the company or its owners are in the UK or US or the tax experience/qualifications of the owners.

They may be great guys, but I simply can't tell if they will give you best advice when it comes to the interaction with UK type issues such as our weird tax year, penson plans, ISAs and the UK/US tax treaty.

I normally recommend a dual qualified US/UK adviser.

I have never come across this firm previously in well over 20 years in the US/UK tax industry.

I agree with guya. I also found their site really confusing and taxes are too important to mess with. Someone that you can meet in person is probably the best bet. - that's what I'll be looking for.

Yes, I too am needing to find someone over here in the UK to assist with filing 2009 and possible amendments to past returns.  Didn't realise how difficult it would be to find someone that knows both the UK and US side of things.   :(

I'd be interested too as I'm worried I'm making a muck of things! Though someone did tell me (back in 2008) that it could cost around 600 pounds to get a firm/accountant to deal with your UK earnings on U.S. taxes! Which is why I've been using Turbotax, but it's really not entirely clear and I'm hoping I've been doing it right. It would be great if there were a reliable agency that could do it at an affordable price.

They are in the US and their accountants are contracted out.
