? about children and spousal visas

I was just on the British Embassy website, I may have missed something but...the childrens visas are good for one year then what? As does the spousal visa of two years...We had more to do with my DH after a couple of years is it the same policy on the UK? What are the costs involved in the wxtra paperwork? Thanks!

I'd have thought that children's visas would be initially 2 years the same as the spousal visa. How long have you been married? If you have been married more than 4 years you can get Indefinite Leave to Remain straight away (like Perm Residency) in which case there would not be anything more to do, unless you go for citizenship in 3 years. The visas cost £250 each (that's for you and the children). If you have been married less than 4 years and only get the conditional 2 year visa, then yes you would have to pay again for ILR. That costs £155 each by mail and £250 in person. The children do not have a claim to UK citizenship do they? If so they don't need visas.

They were both born here, one in '95 the other '04.

Your children's father is a Brit and you are married to him - you can apply for Brit passports for them because they are entitled to British citizenship.  Then you needn't worry about visas for them, only for yourself.

As you've been married for 9 years, you should be entitled to Indefinite Leave to Enter, rather than the 2-year visa.  That means no more paperwork unless you want to then apply for citizenship yourself after you've been in the UK for 3 years.

Lets say we do get them British passports and we decide to move back to the states, would anything need to be done? or would they be able to live here with no trouble as they were born here?

The British passport idea never came to thought. This would be so much cheaper then having to file for the kids as well as myself.

They'll each need their own American passport and British passport, and they'll have no problem moving between the countries (or many others, considering the Brit relationship with the EU).  They are dual citizens by virtue of birth and they are very lucky for it!
