Region 1 DVD in the UK?
« on: March 22, 2010, 03:13:33 AM »
Will my US dvds play in the UK?  There are a few we want to take with us, and in the past, we have sent a few dvds and cds as gifts to the family.  They never said anything about it, so I am assuming they do work?

Hi,

Our region 1 US DVDs play fine here in the UK.  You might have issues with an older TV or with a DVD player that doesn't want to play region 1, but there are ways to unlock many DVD players (you can find them on the web).

We have a PS2 and got a special disk that allows us to play Region 1.

A lot of expensive dvd players are more difficult to hack than cheaper ones, but most dvd players will not play Region 1 straight out of the box.

Neither our dvd player or our PS3 will play Region 1 dvds, unfortunately. No idea which ones might. But on my iMac, I have an option to switch regions, but it only allows me to do that so many times before it locks one in completely.  :-\\\\

We brought our xbox and laptops from the US and use one or the other to watch Region 1 dvds.

We were able to find a reasonably cheap regionless dvd player.  I think we got the nicer version of it for £45, but we definitely could have bought one for around £25.

Think outside the box like I did....

I brought US DVD's and I have our computer by the TV ect...
I have an HDMI cable run to the TV and use a different "source" and use the computer speakers to control the volume....

We no longer have a DVD player as the computer works PLUS when I watch anything online - its on the BIG TV ;-)
