Customs form for packet?
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:31:01 PM »
I'm sending a small envelope to my parents which will have two greeting cards, two small and thin magazines (value of 5 euros total), and two checks (one made out to my mom, one made out to me) which will total around $560. Do I need to do a customs form for this? If I were just sending the checks in a regular envelope I wouldn't worry about it, but since I'm sending it with these magazines I'm wondering if I'll need to do a form. I'm not keen on alerting to people that there is money in a package, but I don't want to break the law either. I also don't want to have my parents pay duty on anything.

Any thoughts?

I'd put the envelopes with checks inside the magazine and call it good.

If they make me do a form for the magazines, do I have to include the checks on that?

btw - This is the second time I've sent this check since the first one was lost in the post. I just discovered that it was probably due to the ash cloud that the mail was lost/majorly delayed!!!  >:(

IME, (sending from the UK, not Ireland) you wont have to do a customs form.  I sent my dad a magazine a few months ago, and didnt fill out any forms, just paid postage.

Thanks. I've sent checks before, but this is the first time that one hasn't made it. I was getting concerned it was caught up in customs, but then I read about the ash cloud stuff on the USPS website. I know I was over-thinking it. Thanks for talking me down!!  ;D
