American foods at your local shop
« on: April 02, 2010, 07:41:23 PM »
I have been amazed by the amounts of American goodies at my local (and online) waitrose. Just by chance in the baking aisle I saw and picked up betty crocker pancake mix, cornbread mix, Jiffy peanut butter and some Canadian maple syrup.  Did I just miss this stuff before or are they just stocking jiffy for the first time. Regardless had some awesome pancakes for brekky

yah, Waitrose have always stocked a variety of American Goods, I made cornbread from there last thanksgiving and just yesterday for Easter. In store can be hit or miss, I shop online with Ocado where you can get Skippy, Lucky charms, Junior Mints, Black Cherry Soda, beef franks, marshmallow fluff, jollytime popcorn, A1 steak sauce, Hersheys syrup etc.

I was a bit shocked when we moved to our current area just how much our Sainsbury's had that was American, let alone what I could find at the Waitrose one stop on the train away, including Oscar Meyer bacon. We lived two years in Westminster where the biggest shop near by could fit in a quarter of our current Sainsbury's.

Plus, I've been buying new (to me) British and European stuff that has really made me happy we have a big store as an option.

My favourite Waitrose item: canned pumpkin!!

There are a couple of shops in Cardiff that also have "American corners" that sell bits of stuff from home.  They're overpriced, but I still cave now and again for a can of A&W.  I also love Costco for my big tubs of Skippy Superchunk and Red Vines.  I swear, I keep my membership up just for that.
