When to make embassy appointment?

Hello,
Our baby is due in July, and we want to urgently get all of the passport/SS# stuff done at the  US embassy in London so we can get paperwork pronto in case we need to travel.

I've looked over the basic process, but I am curious as to how far in advance you usually have to make your appointment? Do you have to wait until the baby's here to schedule the appointment? Or could I call now and set something up for August or something?

Any other tips on this would also be appreciated.  I've read some old threads, so I kind of know what needs to be done, but I am sure there are good ways and better ways to do this.

I am kind of wondering the same thing.  I'm a USC and husband is a UKC.  Our baby is due 24 Apr (2 weeks from today!!!!!!!!!!).  I've looked online and you can book an appointment but it looks like you can only book a few weeks in advance.  I don't THINK the baby has to be born but again, you can't book more than like, 3 weeks in advance anyways. 

For example (and i've just checked) the soonest I can get an appt now is 7th May.  If I am my full 14 days over I won't have baby until 8th May.   However if I have baby on time do I really want to travel down to london 2 weeks after she's born to have to go through all the embassy mess??  It's tricky.  But I think I'll have a look at appts in the next 2 weeks and book one at that point.  You don't need to give details of baby's birth/name when you book the appt so that's ok.
