Movicol Ice Lollies
« on: April 17, 2010, 09:49:42 AM »
Well, I won't get into the ins and outs of it, but essentially my daughter has been prescribed Movicol (you know what it is if you've needed it) and needs to have 3-5 sachets a day.  Problem is we can't convince her for love or money that she needs to have it.  We've managed to sneak it into yougurt but there's only so many of those a day she can have.

Has anyone ever made it in ice lollies?  Can anyone give another suggestion?

THanks

Well I've got a child that i take care of in the community that requires Movicol daily. What we do with him is we mix it in just 10 ml of water and then put that in a bit of OJ.
He seems to be okay with that .
I imagine that another juice would do as well.
Worth a try anyways   [smiley=curtain.gif]

I haven't tried mixing in water and then juice, but I've tried sewrving it with about 100 mls water, she didn't like it.  THen tried mixing it into juice.  She just knows something's up with it.  It's the slightly slimy texture she can't drink.  Even if we don't tell her we're mixing it, she knows somethings up.

Have you talked to your pharmacist about it?  Your pharmacist will likely know of a lot of different options available for you.

Well, I know it's supposed to be mixed with water, but I wonder if a bit of Sprite wouldn't be ok? Maybe the carbonation would distract from the texture.  ??? Then you could give her some water afterwards?

Uggh, can't blame your daughter- that stuff is nasty- They made me take it when I was in hospital and it was vile, disgusting stuff.  And I'm normally very good about medicines.

Found this thread so maybe it will have some advice.  Do check with a chemist first though to make sure you're not doing something to limit its effectiveness or increasing side effects.  You can also call the company, I'm sure there's a customer service number in the leaflet.

I googled this and to me Movicol sounds like it does something similar to Lactulose...which is a really sweet syrup and I love the taste of (I know, odd...but its true) I might be completely wrong, but is it similar to Lactulose Syrup? That should be easy to get a kid to have! Good luck!

I think the fact that it is mixed with water is part of the process.  According to Wiki the movicol isn't absorbed and the water stays in the gut causes what needs to happen to happen.  I think mixing it with water and freezing it into a lolly should be fine. I'd talk to the chemist to see if there is anything else they can prescribe
