Ok, I am british and was born british, have an american girlfriend whom I love dearly and look forward to your experiences as we have joined 2 other boards to find out the pros and cons to visas on both sides of the atlantic.

At the moment we are both going thru divorces and will take myself 4months and here quite a bit less 60 days min i think she was told...just filed...

Anyway, hopefully I can share some stuff on the way and look forward to reading as much as possible, but please bare with me as I tend to post questions as they pop into my head....

 ;D

Wolfy,

You and I have a lot in common. My fiance is Scottish. I am currently putting together my UK Fiancee Visa Application, and we are both in the midst of finishing up our divorces. I've been separated for three years, and just now gathered the money to take care of mine. In fact, my case was scheduled to appear in court yesterday (I didn't have to attend). I am waiting anxiously to hear back in the next couple days. He's been separated also and was just now allowed to file for divorce, thanks to British divorce law. His should be taken care of in the next week or two.

Crazy finding true happiness after screwing up so bad the first time. I feel very blessed! Good luck to you and research your options. If you decide to live in the UK, most people would advise you to get married and have her apply for the spouse visa stateside...cheaper in visa fees. But for our situation, it worked best to go the fiance visa route, due to timing. Plus, when I added in airfare, it didn't work out cheaper for me to go the spouse visa route.

Anyway, getting ahead of myself here...Guess I just thought I'd let you know you're not alone in this! Welcome!
Fiance Visa Application sent unexpedited :(: June 4
Docs. received at LA Consulate: June 7
Rec'd "Assessment in Process" Email: June 9
Rec'd Visa Approval Email: July 16
Wedding Date: Sept. 16

Hello and welcome!  I'm American and about to move to the UK on a spousal visa.  My husband came to the US on a fiance visa a few years ago and we are giving the UK a try as he was offered a good job back in London recently. Good luck and don't worry if the first year or so of being married is really hard given the circumstances.  It will get better!

Welcome!  And best of luck with the divorces.  Mine in the US took 90 days, my UK husband's took 11 months.   :o   There were no issues or arguments, just a strangely incompetent solicitor who occasionally lost important paperwork.  I'm sure yours will go MUCH more smoothly.   :)
