Document notarized in UK vaild for US?
« on: May 17, 2010, 07:53:33 PM »
I am so close to being released off the mortage with my ex-husband.  They need me to sign one more paper and have it notarized.  I found posts on here about getting a notary in the UK.  My question is would it be valid for US when it is notarized out of the country?

Thanks :)

We did our closing on our US house in the UK, using a UK notary instead of going to the Embassy to get a US notary.
It was fine, but we did have to call the County courthouse in the US county we were buying in to verify they would accept it (the title company handling the closing had told us no but I pushed and finally they said "well really it's up to the County Clerk as to whether or not they accept it.")
The county clerk told me as long as it was in English and had a notary seal they were fine with it.

Good luck!  :)

I was going to post the same.  Not all places will accept the UK notary but you can go to the US embassy.  YOu will need an appointment at the Embassy and it books up fast.
